This reality was possible thanks to an extensive and diversified communications network – first maritime and land, then also air – that kept a plurality of regions and ecosystems interconnected. Starting from this interpretive approach to networks of exchange, this collection of essays contains recent research on how music, with its complexity of semantic and formal components and its inherent capacity to cross all types of borders, participated in these transnational networks, becoming a key agent within a dynamic system of cultural relations.
